Funding Application Process
This page outlines what you need to do to apply for a grant or loan and the criteria we will use in considering your application.
How do I apply for a grant or loan?
Before you commence an application for funding, please review the June Canavan Foundation Impact Framework 2021 – 2031.
Formal applications for grant funding or impact loans are made by completing and submitting our JCF Funding Application Form. You may be asked to provide proof of your organisation’s TCC and Item 1 DGR status if we are unable to verify this easily. Once you submit the form, you will receive an automated acknowledgment that we have received your submission, and you will receive an email containing your application details.
When can I apply
There is no set application period. You may submit an application for funding at any time, however applications will only be considered twice yearly at bi-annual Board meetings, usually held in March and September. The cut-off date for having your application considered at the March meeting is 1 February, and for consideration at the September meeting is 1 August. Application cut-off dates may occasionally vary due to fluctuations in meeting dates, and these will be highlighted on the current application form.
How Will My Proposal Be Assessed?
The June Canavan Foundation Board assesses applications in the context of two parameters:

- How likely is it to further the JCF vision, mission and role
- How strongly does it support one or more of the five focus areas and geographical priorities
- How closely does it meet our criteria and preferences
Organisational capacity
- Is there sufficient evidence that the applicant organisation has the governance and resources – including time, knowledge, people, skills, and infrastructure – to achieve what it intends?
- Is the budget realistic?
What size funding is available?
There is no set grant size, however our distributions include small grants and donations (generally $1,000 -$20,000) and large grants (generally $20,000 -$50,000). Favourable consideration will be given to funding multi-year proposals with annual review.
Impact loans and other funding types can vary. Please get in touch if you want to discuss a proposal before completing you application.

What happens once a proposal is approved?
If you are successful in your funding application we will advise you in writing of the amount of the funding, reporting and evaluation conditions, and the contact person from the Foundation that will work with you.
The June Canavan Foundation operates on principles of open disclosure and transparency. If you are successful in obtaining funding, you will be listed as a funding recipient and our website will link to yours (if applicable). We may also make public any progress and acquittal reports you provide us for others to learn about the outcomes of your work.
What if my application is unsuccessful?
If we decide not to award you funding we will provide advice, giving brief reasons as to why your application was not successful. Where considered appropriate, we may suggest you re-apply with more information or a revised proposal.
